Located at the southern point of the old Viking settlement, the lighthouse at Howth harbour was built from stone in 1818. It is different from other lighthouses thanks to the semicircular stone wall erected around it. In belligerent periods of Ireland’s past, this structure served as valuable defence in times of war. The lighthouse has been inactive since 1982 and now serves as a tourist attraction.
